Gaius Lutatius Catulus (3rd century BC), Roman general in the first Punic War; consul, 242 BC.
In 241 he commanded a fleet of 200 ships which defeated the Carthaginians off the Aegates Islands.

The Acta Senatus was the official record of the proceedings of the Roman Senate. Though publication was banned by Emperor Augustus, they were preserved and remained accessible to historians with permission of the city prefect.
